Worldwide Fibre Optic Experience
Since 1980, W.O.C.S has carried out work involving terrestrial, subsea and river-crossing fibre optic cables. This page presents several examples of projects carried out in different countries, including civil engineering, sub-ducting, cable pulling, shore landings, earthing systems and mechanical protection.
Civil Engineering Works
IMEWE Project – Jeddah
For the IMEWE project in Jeddah, W.O.C.S supplied and installed two 50 mm and 40 mm HDPE sub-ducts. The teams also prepared the cable pulling operations, including fitting the pulling sock and organising the work areas. This type of work requires great precision, as the passage of the cables must preserve their integrity. W.O.C.S's field experience helps secure these sensitive stages, limit mechanical stress and promote efficient installation.

SMW 3 Project – Macao
The SMW 3 project in Macao presents an example of a figure-eight arrangement for resuming cable pulling. This method makes it possible to manage cable lengths correctly during complex operations while avoiding twisting and excessive strain. W.O.C.S works on this type of project with teams accustomed to demanding technical environments. Preparation, methodology and the use of suitable equipment contribute to ensuring reliable fibre optic cable installation.

ORASCOM Project – Oran
For the ORASCOM project in Oran, W.O.C.S participated in civil engineering works related to the construction of a telecom terminal station. Operations included site excavation, the start of construction of the retaining wall, construction of the perimeter wall and installation of shelters. This work illustrates W.O.C.S's ability to manage essential preparatory works before the installation of fibre optic cables. The objective was to create stable, operational infrastructure suited to the requirements of an international telecommunications network.
Earthing Systems
IMEWE V Project – Muscat, Oman
For the IMEWE V project in Muscat, Oman, W.O.C.S carried out borehole drilling and electrode installation as part of an earthing system, also known as an Ocean Ground Bed. These installations contribute to the safety and proper operation of the connections concerned. The company can undertake earthing system studies, resistivity measurements, soil studies, drawings and installation. This comprehensive expertise makes it possible to integrate electrical and telecommunications requirements within the same project.

SMW 3 Project – Macao
For the SEA-ME-WE 3 project in Macao, W.O.C.S installed an earth plate on the beach. The teams also protected the cable by installing articulated cast-iron shells, as well as constructing the trench between the beach and the beach manhole. These operations demonstrate expertise in coastal works. W.O.C.S adapts its methods to site conditions, the marine environment and the cable's mechanical protection requirements.
Beach Manholes
ORASCOM Project – Oran
For this project, W.O.C.S participated in the construction of the beach manhole and the installation of ducts extending towards the sea. This stage makes it possible to connect the terrestrial infrastructure to the marine route of the fibre optic cable. The beach manhole is a key point in the network. Its design, positioning and connection must be carried out carefully to ensure system continuity and facilitate future maintenance operations.

TE North Project – Abu Talat, Egypt
For the TE North project in Abu Talat, Egypt, W.O.C.S installed ducts from the beach manhole towards the sea. The work also included concreting the ducts and installing ducts between the beach manhole and the telecom station. This experience demonstrates W.O.C.S's ability to work on complete infrastructure projects. The teams coordinate civil engineering, duct installation and the specific requirements of fibre optic networks.

TE North Project – Marseille, France
In Marseille, W.O.C.S worked on the construction of the terrestrial route between the beach manhole and the terminal station. The project included the use of equipment for directional drilling, road crossings, joining HDPE pipes by welding, pulling fibre optic cable and installing a prefabricated beach manhole. This project illustrates a complete intervention in an urban and coastal environment. W.O.C.S applies its expertise in civil engineering, duct installation, cable pulling and preparation for connections.
Shore Landings and River Crossings
Île d’Yeu Project – France
For the Île d’Yeu Project in France, W.O.C.S participated in loading the spare cable reel, placing the cable in the tank at the NEXANS factory, anchoring the subsea cable in the beach manhole and connecting the beach joint. These shore landing operations require great precision. They ensure the transition between the subsea cable and the terrestrial network while respecting mechanical and environmental constraints.

Saint-Louis Project – Senegal
For the Saint-Louis project in Senegal, W.O.C.S loaded the cable onto a modular pontoon. The teams installed the cable while simultaneously fitting articulated cast-iron shells manufactured and supplied by W.O.C.S. This work highlights the company's expertise in river-crossing works and mechanical cable protection. It also illustrates W.O.C.S's ability to provide complete solutions, from products through to installation.
